Unable to connect to Sql Server Compact Edition Database

I'm using VS 2005 and ActiveSync 4.5.

Using the Server Explorer in VS 2005, I get the following error when I
try to add a connection to a sql server compact edition database that
resides on a CE device:

"Unable to connect or authenticate Sql Server Compact Edition
connection through Microsoft Activesync. Make sure the device is
properly connected to this computer."

If I copy the same database to my development PC, I'm able to add the
connection and open the database.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Bill,

Did you use the server tools in VS 2005 to browse to the database on the
mobile device, so you know the file is there?

Ginny,

Yes, everything appears normal. I can browse to the database on the
device via ActiveSync, and the connection properties look correct
after the selection is made. It's not until I click 'Test connection'
or "OK' that the error appears.

It sounds to me like the connection may be timing out across the Activesync
link, but I don't  believe you could change the default connect timeout in
VS 2005. Is there anything at all unusual about the database?

Not that I can see, If I copy it from the device to the PC I can open/
query it without error.

Hello Bill,

Did you resolved your problem. Yesterday everything worked like a
charm. Today I get the same error as yours. I cannot connect from
VS2005/VS2008/SSMS to database on any of my devices (all running WM
5.0). Device that does not work with my computer works fine on my
colleague computer. It is very strange because I didn't change a thing
in my system configuration.

I would be grateful for any suggestions

After a few days of fight I finally solved this issue!
Just close SQL Server Management Studio, remove the keys from the
"%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA"
folder and it should work again.
