I have installed VSTO 2005 and have discovered that the designer tools for
SQL Compact Edition do not function.  They appear to function fine in VS 2005
Professional but not in VSTO.

Does anyone know how to get the tools to work in VSTO or do I have to now
purchase VS Professional

I apologise if this is the wrong group for this post but I am running out of
solutions.

Clint,

As far as I know you need VS 2005 Standard or above or VS 2008 Professional
or above in order to get the SQL Compact data tools. You can also use SQL
Express 2005 sp2 Management Studio if you only want the database design and
query tools and don't care about the code generation tools.

Thanks Ginny,
I was afraid of that.  When I purchased VSTO and compared the tools I found
no reference to this limitation.  As microsoft are pushing SQL Compact
Edition as a Winforms database with SQL Server syncronisation I assumed
(stupidly) that it would work.  It seems like an unnecessary product
distinction to me.  The price step to Team Edition is too high to justify for
a single developer business who does some office development as well.

Clint,

If you reread my message to you you'll see I didn't mention Team Edition at
all. SQL Express is free, and you can use SQL Express sp2 Management Studio
with SQL Compact 2005.
