Hi all,

I created a sample app, and wanted to encrypt the database.
However, I do not remember if I did it. I know that I included
a password. Is there any way to find out if the database is encrypted or
not?. To test, I figured that if after openning it with an editor such as
notepad I could see field values then it would not be encrypted, and I
did not. Was that test the right thing to do, or there is some kind
of properties describing the database?

Thanks!

Carlos,

If you provided a password, it is encrypted. It's ok to look in Notepad too.
;-)

Which version of SQL Compact are you using? With 3.5 there are several
encryption options: Platform Default, Engine Default, and PPC2003
Compatibility. Books Online
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172417(SQL.100).aspx) provides
descriptions of what each means, but mainly you should be aware that older
devices can't handle newer, stronger encryption.

Hi again Ginny,

thanks for the prompt response. I am targeting v3.5, but I do not recall
getting the option on the different encryption options. I'd like to learn
more
about them.. I did provided a password though

Thanks again,

            Carlos. (:-)}
