Okay, I did something to screwup my system. I think that it may have
been the VS2008 beta a long time ago, but I'm not sure but I am just
starting to need CE.
I cannot connect to a CE 3.5 sdf database with VS2008. I can open the
databases in SSMS just fine. However, in VS2008 when I do Data
Connections | Add Connection and press the <Change> button for the
Data Source, I get "Microsoft Access Database file ", ""Microsoft ODBC
Data Source", ""Microsoft SQL Server", ""Microsoft SQL Server Database
File" and "Oracle Database" but no Compact SQL Server. Besides
reformatting my drive, is there a way to get it in there? Should I
just forget that limitation and just program around it or ?? I know
SQL Server fairly well, but am a newbie with CE. Thanks!

Yes, you should have Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 in the list. Since
you don't, it seems that there might be a problem with the install of SQLCE
3.5. You could try installing SQLCE 3.5SP1. Here's a link to the blog
entry about it:

p1-released.aspx
You could also just try uninstalling and reinstalling SQLCE 3.5 (not SP1).
It would take a lot less time than reformatting!

Thanks. I did try uninstalling SQLCE 3.5 and reinstalling it today,
but no joy. I'm convinced that there is some assembly out there or
registry entry that is screwing up the process but I don't have a list
of what exactly is "completely uninstalling SQLCE 3.5". I will take a
look at that web page and let you know.
