Re-run SQL Server setup and choose the option to modify exisitng
installation. You can remove the exisitng IP and add a new IP.

17 times or so. We build our clusters locally and ship to the center, then
have to change the IPs. Works great. No worries!

Hi,
My server is moving from 1 location to another. When to change the sql
virtual server ip address:
1. change ip address shutdown the server and move it
2. Move the server to new location into network and then change the ip
address.
Which option is recommanded.

To run sql server installation for changing ip address, has sql server
running and its resource online in cluster service.

Thanks..

Really does not matter, but I always move it, then change the IP.

To be able to change sql virtual ip address, should sql server running & sql
server resources online in cluster administration.

You have to take SQL Server offline before you can change the IP.

But article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];244980

What you said is from your praticle experiences

Thanks

You can't change the parameters of any resource while it is running, it
always requires a restart of the resource to take affect.

Here my experences of changing sql virtual server ip address
I ran the setup program to change the ip address while resources were
offline.
After changing sql ip address resource & sql name resource came online but
sql server resource was failing. When i checked sql errorlog it showed error
unable to bind ip address.
I checked the registry, it was showing old ip address. I manually changed
the registry to new ip address after which the sql server came online
successfully.

i am not able to understand what went wrong which resulted me in changing
registry.

did i miss out any step.

thanks,

sats

Doesn't sound like it, but you're the third person in the last three weeks
I've heard the same story from...after not hearing this in 2 years of SQL
cluster support...
