SSAS - how do I find the service name?

Hi Everybody,

Not sure if the subject is worded correctly, but here's my problem:

I installed SQL 2005 on my XP Pro machine that already had SQL 2000
installed.  The SQL 2000 service is simply "MYMACHINE", so I had to
name the 2005 SQL service "MYMACHINE\MYNAME", and this has caused me
no problems.  But when trying to connect Excel 2003 to 2005 SSAS (yes,
I did install it and yes, the service is currently running), I keep
getting errors when trying to point the the cube server.  The error is
"unable to connect to the Analysis server.  The server name 'MYMACHINE
\MYNAME' was not found.  Please verify that the name you entered is
correct, and then try again"

My question is this: how do I determine the name of the service that
SSAS is running?  I must be doing something wrong because I was able
to deploy the cube.

Thanks, all.

By the way, I can see "Server: MYMACHINE\MYNAME" in the Deployment
Progress window of BIDS, and I've tried the Excel connection with and
without my username/password, and with and without my domain name.
I'm stumped.  Likewise, neither "." nor "(local)" seem to work, either.

So you are saying that the service MSOLAP$InstanceName is running?
(Yes, I know you said the service is running, but when involved in
remote diagnosis it is worth getting the details confirmed.)

Hi Harvey,

Yes, the service is definitely running.  It comes up automatically in
the drop-down box, but then I get an error after clicking "OK" when
trying to set the data source in Excel.

Apologies for the delay.  I couldn't see my post for several days for
some reason.

Thanks,
Eric

I hope someone else comes along to help, because getting the question
clarified is about as far as I can go with Analysis Services.

Thanks, Roy.  I think I posted this question at a bad time (end of the
day on Friday).
