RS 2005 either installs its own development environment (which is a special
version of Visual Studio 2005) or it integrates with VS 2005. So, you can
install (side by side, it shouldn't mess with your VS 2003), no purchase of
VS 2005 is nessary. You cannot develop RS 2005 reports with VS 2003.
Just remove the RS projects from your solution and keep the non-report
projects together. If you are doing web services access to RS both RS 2000
and RS 2005 web services are supported.

Thanks Bruce, that is what I ended up doing anyway. Bit of a pain, but
only a couple of weeks until we upgrade fully anyway.
Do you know if the reports authored in 2005 can be deployed to a RS
2000 server with RS SP2? If not, I'll just upgrade our database anyway.
Thanks again

No, you cannot. RS 2005 reports have to deploy to a RS 2005 server. However,
the database can be 2000. This means that RS 2005 can use SQL Server 2000 as
its object/metadata store. You do need the 2005 SQL Server license however.
