Running Reporting Services under XP

I have SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 installed on my Compaq Presario
which is running Windows XP Media Edition.  When I try to deploy a report
model I get the error message:

"A connection could not be made to the report server
http://localhost/ReportServer."

Under additonal information:

"Client found response content type of "text/html", but expected "text/xml".

Is Windows XP Professional edition required to run Reporting Services?

It appears that IIS is working okay, even though my Windows version is
Media edition instead of Professional edition.  I was able to test this by
creating a FrontPage web under wwwroot, then opening the web by typing in
http://localhost/index.htm.

So the problem must lie with my SQL Server Developer Edition install.  It
creates two virtual directories under wwwroot:  reports and reportserver.  I
cannot open either of these with the localhost path.  In each case I get the
error message below:

"The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the
processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail
information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance."

I've uninstalled and re-installed SQL Server a couple of times, but still
getting this same result.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this.
