hi,

In the 'report server' database, which table/column contains the report
'.rdl' file names?  is it in the catalog table?  I'm currently working on sql
2005 and 2008 SSRS.

thanks!

You got me curious so I explored a little:
select path, name, type, description from catalog order by type, name

Type evaluates to (based on my observation, not any documentation)

1: folder

2: report

3: Non-rdl (I have some html and .doc files uploaded to Reporting Services.
Those have a type of 3 when I query the catalog table.)

4: linked report

5: data source

thanks Bruce.  This is really helpful.  So are you saying that 'name' column
is the physical rdl file's file name for type 2 (report)?

Do you also know anyway from the website that can generate report (or gather
data) for each report's rdl file name and file upload path?...

I've been searching for books online to explain each column in these tables,
couldn't find any link.  shouldn't be this hard to find, one would think. :-)

As far as I know this is undocumented and could change from version to
version. One supported way to find out this information is looking at web
services. There is a whole lot of functionality available via web services.
I haven't used them so I am not familiar with it. Also, check out URL
access. I know you can list out reports using a URL (and anything done via a
URL can be done by web services as well). URL access and web services are
the supported way of doing things. Querying the tables directly like I
showed you is not supported and hence can change at any time.

thank you so much Bruce, you've been so helpful!  It's a shame that not so
much good documentations from Microsoft around SSRS.  I guess we will have to
experiment and find out ourselves. :-)

Hope will see more good documentation from MS about SSRS soon.

take care,

There is a lot of documentation around the URL integration and web services.
Think of it this way. Anything you see Report Manager doing you can do with
Web Services. Indeed, Web Services is how Report Manager (which is just an
asp.net application) does everything.
