error populating full text index.

I'm trying to populate a full text index on a database but I'm having some
troubles.  
I've tried re-creating the index, re-populating it fully, and even
incrementally all to no avail. The full text catalog for this table still
says the item count is 0.  Can anybody shed some light on this?

I take it you have 8 rows in this table. Are you indexing any binary
documents?

It might be possible that there is some locking going on which is causing
SQL FTS to be unable to access these docs. Can you try to query the base
table and do dummy updates to check for locking? IE update TableName set
Col1=Col1?

1) Correct.  That table only has 8 rows.  

The full text is only set up to index on one field and here's an example
record of this field.  The field is a varchar(5000) field datatype, by the
way.

Antigen Presentation;Genes, MHC Class II;Antigen-Presenting Cells;Dendritic
Cells;Macrophages;Immunity, Cellular;T-Lymphocytes;Cytokines;

2) I just tried to check for locks and I am able to insert a row and then
update it just fine.  However the full text population still fails.

Any other ideas?
