I learned recently that Microsoft has a Most Valuable Professional (MVP)
program to recognize, honor and reward people who regularly provide
technical support for Microsoft products through discussion groups.  For
information about the MVP program, see
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2002/oct02/10-23mvp.asp

I wish to nominate John Kane (jt-kane@comcast.net) as a MVP for Microsoft's
SQL server and full text indexing facility.

Over the last few weeks we have been struggling to get full-text indexing
working with Microsoft SQL server 2000.  I have posted a number of messages
to newsgroups asking for help and information about the SQL server and full
text indexing.  John Kane has consistently provided very valuable support
which has been extremely helpful to us.  He even helped me with a critical
situation over the holiday weekend.

As I browse the SQL newsgroups, I often see John's replies with helpful
information and suggestions to a wide variety of queries. He has
demonstrated great in-depth knowledge of the SQL server and full text
indexing facilities.  He also has shown patience and a willingness to devote
a considerable amount of his time and energy helping others solve their
problems.

I'm not sure what the exact process is for making a formal MVP nomination,
but if there is anyone with the Microsoft MVP program reading this, please
give John Kane the MVP status he deserves.

That would be me and I can assure you that he's on the candidate list. That
doesn't mean he'll become an MVP, just that he's been noticed.

Whew...I'll heartily second that!  John has helped me with a *number* of issues over an
extended period of time, and no question is too small or too big for him.

I typically get immediate help from John Kane with FT issues and Allan Mitchell with DTS
issues.  (I guess it all depends on what technology I'm using at the time! ;-)
