Wikipedia has an entry on SSL:

If you can get your hands on 'SSL and TLS' by Eric Rescorla is a very good
book on this subject.

Are there even more basics that can tell me about keys and certificates ? I
already am confused when they talk about certificates and keys and public
and private and symmetric and assymetric.
Are there any basics on all of that too someplace that I can read ?

internet for it yields so many results that it is a good way to learn about
searching the internet.
