Greetings,

I have a new software package that is running on SQL 2005 Standard. I am
attempting to install a webportal module to the software.

When granting the webportal module access to the SQL DB should I use Windows
Authentication or SQL Server Authentication? I am interested in the solution
that will provide the tightest security.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The "tightest security" will be Windows Authentication.

But that may require all of your users to have a login in Active Directory.
If that is the situation, then go for Windows Authentication.

Arnie,

Thank you for your response. I forgot to mention that this module will be
access from the Internet. So going with the Windows Authentication solution
would I create a generic account in AD for the webportal then assign it to
the SQL DB?

Thanks

Look up how to use an Application Pool with IIS.
