There are actually a number of updates you should apply post SP3a, the
easiest way, run Windows Update.
If you want to know what's available:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx
Select SQL Server 2000 to display a list.

OK I have the list. Why don't I see sp3a in the list?
Thanks!

Because that one is not applied via Windows Update. Rather, some of the list
is post SQL Server 2000 SP3a and patch other items like MDAC...

You are mis-reading my post, there are a significant number of security
updates that update other components that affect SQL Server 2000. Updating
to SP3a is a good first step, but there are many other updates that are
needed from that point. Updates to MDAC for example.

Dale,
Builds 818 (kb826161) and 878 (kb838166) are publicly available. Both
include the last security patch MS03-031.
