Hi there
Sorry in advance if this seems like a stupid question
I was recently tasked with setting up Porject Server for my work. By
the time the order went through I was presented with SQL server 2005 EE
rather than 2000 EE which I had requested.
I have read that its not advisable to try and run these 2 together yet,
so my question is...
If I have the obtain a media kit for SQL 2000 EE and a license for SQL
2005 EE, can I legally install SQL 2000 EE? ie: Is the licensing
retrospective. Obviously I would not be installing SQL 2005 as well.
If so what would I need to do to get a valid CD Key? I assume that I
will need a CD key to install either.
Again sorry if this is stupid
Thanks
Duggie

If you bought SQL Server 2005 you can install SQL Server 2000 instead. I
assume at some point you will upgrade the 2000 to 2005. You can also install
2005 and run you databsae as a compatibility 80 (which is version 2000). I
will assume though this is some 3 rd party software that does not yet support
2005. If so installing 2000 would be a better idea. 2005 and 2000 can
actually be installed on the same server (2 instances) but for a production
machine I would hesitate to do this. Use the same CD key you were given for
2005 to install the 2000 version. If this doesn't work contact Microsoft PSS.
