Hi,

I recently installed SQL Server 2005 on a new server, no databases
configured yet.  The tech support folks for the application that will use
this server said I also need analysis services installed.  I just finished
installing analysis services on this computer now but cannot seem to connect
to the analysis services component from within the management studio.  Any
suggestions?  What else needs to be done to configure analysis services?

When I try to connect it gives the error:

Cannot connect to <my sql server>
Additional information:
A connection cannot be made.  Ensure that the server is running.  (the
analysis service is running)
 (Microsoft.AnalysisService.adomdClient)
Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection
was forcibly closed by the remote host. (System)
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host(system).

Windows Server 2003 Standard, 64-bit is the platform if that matters.

Thanks in advance,
Linn

Linn,
Are you sure the connection name is specified correctly. For example I
know with integration services that it is not installed as the
instance name. Lets say I have instanced called myserver1\instance1
defined for database services, The actual name to use for integration
services would be myserver1 as opposed to the named instance.  I am
thinking analysis services works the same.   You should be able to use
configuration manager to determine what the proper connection settings
are for the service.

SSIS is a common component and it's installed only once on an Operating
System.

However Analysis Services is an instance and it can be installed more than
once as different instances.

I only had one instance of analysis services but just couldn't get it to
work.  So I took the easy way out and wiped the system and rebuilt the
server from the ground up.  This time installing analysis services at the
same time as the main database.  Everything seems to be working now.

Thanks for the help,
Linn
