I believe that SQL 2000 64 bit on x64 AMD Procs are not truly 64 bit, but
some WoW and that true 64 bit is only suppoerted on IA64 for SQL 2000.

Please let me know if this is true and if so, what would be the difference
in the x64 vs IA64 versions as it relates to SQL Server. What pros and cons
do I see using SQL on one vs the other ?  Also if x64 SQL 2000 is not indeed
a true 64 bit. then what improvements would I see over a 32 bit version of
SQL 2000 on 32 bit x86 architecture

Thanks

The only 64 bit SQL 2000 version is a full 64 bit Itanium version. There is
no x64 bit 2000 only the 32 bit. Your questions are confusing as you jump
around a bit and don't really tell us what you are after.  I see very few
real reasons to use 2000 over 2005 today, especially if you are talking a 64
bit (either x or Itanium) OS. If it is strictly a 32bit OS you don't have a
choice but to use a 32 bit app. If you are buying new hardware then it
doesn't really make sense to go with anything less than a server capable of
x64 bit OS. That will run the 32 or x64 bit versions of SQL Server but again
I highly recommend SQL 2005 x64 bit in that case.
