Has anyone run into problems applying patches to SQL Server due to missing
patch uninstall files?

The patch uninstall files in C:\WINDOWS seem like they can be removed as
long as you no longer want to uninstall the patches.

After a discussion with Microsoft technical support, it appears that they
are required.

I raised an issue on Connect id 259436 about uninstalling SQL2005 service
packs. MS says not yet. I have been able to uninstall hotfix builds on a
client but I doubt you could uninstall hotfixes on the actual server.

So it seems you cannot uninstall hotfixes or actually install them either if
the uninstall files get destroyed.
