Good Day,

We have a SQL 2000 and we are planning on upgrading to SQL 2005.  Our
current copy of SQL is installed on the C drive of the server but do to size
restraints on the C drive and other issues  I am looking at doing a side by
side install/upgrade.

My question is as follows?

Can I install SQL 2005 on the D drive of our server and migrate the database
to the new SQL 2005 instance with out any issues?  Basically can SQL 2005 be
installed on another drive that is not the system drive.

Thanks for your help

Yes. You should probably read the parts that apply from this:

Yes.

Adam,

If you are really constrained for space on the C drive, you may have
problems.  Although you can direct some things to be installed on the D
drive (as I do), SQL Server 2005 will still lay down large amounts of code
on the C drive.  Just checked one of my servers and it looks like about 450
Meg was placed on the C drive.

FWIW, this is a complaint that Microsoft has clearly heard (check out
https://connect.microsoft.com) but I don't know how it is resolving.
(Connect appears to be down at the moment.)

Thanks for the help,

I am not is that bad of shape as I do have room, not enough room to load
another version of SQL on my C drive with the service pack as well.  If I
clean up and remove some other old windows updates I should be OK.  I also
need to install SP2 on the server as well.

thanks for the help and insight.
