Backup schedule settings won't save

I have a maintenance plan set up and the optimization and indexing schedules
are ok. The problem is the schedule for the backup does not save. When I am
in the Complete Backup tab to schedule the backup, the dropdown list to
remove files older than time increment (days, weeks...) is empty. On this
server we are running SQL Server Enterprise Edition 8.00.2039 (SP4). This
looks like a bug but I've never run into this except on this server and I
haven't found anyone mention the problem.

Any ideas?

Hi Sarah

Are you creating the MP on the server or remotely? Does this occur
when you create the maintenance plan or modify it (or both!).
Do you use the default backup directory or a different one?

If you are using AWE then you should apply one of the post SP4
hotfixes as there was a problem, so you may want to try after that!

I did more investigation and found someone had uninstalled SQLSERVERAGENT.
The service wasn't even listed in the services.

Thanks for your response.
