Hello, in SQL Server 2000 what is the difference between a backup file that
has the '.bak' extension versus one that doesn't like 'backup.bak' vs
'backup'?  And is it better practice or advantage to use one over the other?

Thanks in advace.

A file extension is just a naming convention. You can use whatever you like
or not use any at all. And that doesn't change the nature of the file being a
backup file. But you probably don't want to do soemthing too unique, which
serves no good purpose but only to confuse others or yourself later. I
typically stick to .bak for all the backup files so I can easily tell it's a
backup.
