Hi,

we are making changes in local company

We have a windows 2000 server with IIS and SQL 2000 with SP3a everything ok,
but slow... due many sites and traffic and SQL use of resources, until we did
some changes few days ago.

New server with windows 2003 server just for SQL 2000 standard with SP4.
server in same "intranet". And also have mcafee antivirus, other server
doesnt have MCafee.

Heavy traffic portal started to give this error since we put BD's on new
server:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]General network error. Check
your network documentation.

Comunication between te two server are made by TCP/IP using a "name" in file
hosts. tryed with IP but problem persists.

Local windows firewall on 2003 server have SQL as an exception.

We are thinking of trying this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867581/en-us
or
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899599/en-us

With 2000 old server never needeed to change registry.

In event viewer or SQL logs didnt see anything unusual.

Any sugestion to resolve this issue will be apreciated.

Thk,
PV

Check your Antivirus it may be giving a false positive on a worm, or
flood.

Check any other firewalls you might have in place.

This is another possibility

http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/04/12/574608.aspx

and last, we just found ours after numerous failed attempts.  We have
a web-filter appliance that was dropping the connection as it came
across as a peer-to-peer file sharing violation.

Good luck!
