Guys

I have a 120 user network (which may well grow) and am wondering what the
reccomendations are for SQL Server in relation to Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007.

Currently I have all SharePoint services and SQL Server 2005 running on one
box, but I need to use SQL for various other up and coming projects and I'm
thinking about a dedicated SQL Server.

Is it acceptable to utilise an instance on a dedicated SQL server which also
has other databases on it that aren't sharepoint databases? Some people
suggest SharePoint databases will have an adverse affect on other databases
on the same server regardless of using different instances.

Or would it be better to leave the SharePoint database on the stand alone
box with all the other services on it, and use a dedicated SQL Server for
everything else?

The other databases will be for SCCM and SCOM and for future projects but
SharePoint will be the biggest database.

I'm thinking a dual quad core box, 16GB of RAM, 64bit SQL Server 2005.

One last question, are there any issues with using a NAS or SAN with the
standard version of SQL server, or do you need to get the enterprise
edition.

Thanks for your help

Uri

Thanks for your link but it doesn't really answer my questions!

Will SQL Server 2005 Standard support a SAN or a NAS?

Will SharePoint Databases running on seperate instances hog resources from
other instanceS?

Yes

Each SQL Server instance consumes memory. For example if you have a server
with 4GB RAM so I'd set up MIN memory to the each instance 1GB at least
to start working
