Clustered SQL2K5 instances with Clustered SQL2K instances31 May 2006 13:49 GMT4
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I'm caught in the middle of a
situation, and I need some expert advice.
We are running multiple SQL2K instances on W2K3 clustered servers in an
Active-Active configuration.  We would like our service provider to
Event ID 17113 after reinstallation of cluster node31 May 2006 13:43 GMT1
got a serious problem with my 2 node cluster running sql server 2005:
After node 2 crashed, I had to reinstall it.
Configuration same as before, then I used the Change option in "Add or
Remove Software" to reinstall sql server 2005 on it.
4 node cluster30 May 2006 17:41 GMT2
Say If I build a 4 node cluster where 3 nodes are active and 1 is passive ,
is it possible theoretically for the 1 node to take over the 3 active nodes
onto itself should all 3 nodes fail ?
Or is clustering setup only enabled for just one node to failover at a time
Do multi node clusters need to be virtualized ?30 May 2006 12:17 GMT2
I have heard that SQL servers could benefit if they are virtualized say
using VMWare or Virtual Server in production when setting up clusters on 4
way nodes such that in the event that 3 nodes fail, then the 4th node could
run those 3 virtual instances on the 4th node.

Is WINS needed for a Win2K3 / SQL Server 2000 Cluster?30 May 2006 12:01 GMT6
Hello.  We are currently using Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000 to set up a
2-node cluster with named instances.  The problem that we are having is that,
if a server is rebooted, the groups that are supposed to fail over, do not.
They just go offline.
More questions on 4 node cluster29 May 2006 09:32 GMT1
Say if I have 4 host names, HostA,HostB,HostC and HostD and if I want
HostA,HostB and HostC to be the active nodes, how do I go about setting up
the virtual name ?
Will HostA and HostD have a name say HostApp1,
Conditions for Cluster to failover..28 May 2006 21:43 GMT2
Under what conditions will the active node fail to the passive node when
automated ?
Does it failover if the CPU on active node is pegged at 100% ?
Will it failover if the active node runs out of worker threads ?
applying SQL patch26 May 2006 19:06 GMT3
I have a three node cluster (Windows 2003 ENT with SQL 2000 SP4).  We are
going to be applying Cumulative Hotfix for SQL Server Service Pack 4 Build
2187 (KB916287).  I'm having a disagreement with our DBA.  He says that the
entire cluster and all named instances need to come ...
SQL Cluster Server setup Issue26 May 2006 14:59 GMT6
I'm trying to setup a SQL cluster server on a Active/Passive Server.
I get to the prompt where I select the Instance Name.
I want to use the default installation however the the Default checkbox is
disabled (greyed out).

SQL 2005 clustering or mirroring26 May 2006 01:31 GMT7
What are organizations using today for HA ? I guess organizations who have
money to spend ;)
Are they using clustering or mirroring or both ?
I would really like to know.
SQL transaction logs on iSCSI26 May 2006 00:41 GMT9
We have been advised that there are performance issues with putting
transaction logs on iSCSI targets.  Can anyone give more
detail/confirm/repudiate this?
We are looking at implementing a two node (probably single instance to begin
Install SQL Server 2005 in active/active clustering.23 May 2006 20:35 GMT1
Our current production databases use the SQL Server 2000 EE, two named
instances with active/passive clustering. I remembered when I install the
named instances, I run cliconfg.exe first, create server alias in SQL Server
client Network Utility dialog box, then run SQL Server ...
Performance23 May 2006 16:22 GMT2
A strange problem,
SQL Enterp. 64bit cluster on a Win2k3 16GB RAM, a query (Select * from)
takes 45 minutes to complete whereas it takes only 11 minutes on a SQL 2000
on a win2k cluster with 8GB RAM :)
