One of my clients started getting error messages in their "Database
Maintenance Plan" that has me concerned.
Databases: master & msdb  (two error messages but same codes)
Activity: Check Data and Index Linkage

How can I determine the instance name of an MSDE instance in code?  

I am installing MSDE Rel A on a XP Pro SP 2 box. I just installed XP Pro SP 2
and installed all the windows updates. I have not installed any other
software.
The error message reads:

I have a Script generated by MS SQL Server 2000 when I try to execute it on
