I would like to know how to programmatically set the notification service

I'd like to use SQL 2005 Notification Services to notify my .Net
application about some events. In few words it will look like that:
- my application starts and subscribes to some events

We are using SQL Server Notifications Services 2.0 which comes with SQL
Server 2000.  We have upgraded to SQL Server 2005 but cannot yet use the
