Is there a way to get SQL Server to install SQL Server 2005 without the extra
node "MSSQL.1" in the directory structure?  Especially when you are only
going to have a single instance (default) running on a machine.

I've been using "setup.iss" files to perform Silent installation of SQL
2000 on windows 2003 and windows XP.
Recently all of my installations keep failing.

In Access I am asked for a LoginID & password when creating an database...
When I installed SQLExpress I specified neither ?

When i install MSDE for the first time and i only need one instance, do i
install the only default instance , or can i install only a named instance ?

My company just purchased 2k5 then we found out that we actually needed 2k2
we are running 2k3 servers as well
anyway they (our vendor) shipped us the 2k2 sp2 and told us to install 2k5
then install 2k2 sp2 over it and it will work just fine..... anyone ever

We will employ SQL2005 database mirroring.  I've read the licensing FAQ,
but it doesn't say whether the mirror server needs a SQL license itself or
not.  Does database mirroring fall under the 'failover' licensing?
Does anyone know??
