When setting up different environments (DEV, UAT, DEMO, etc) is it better to
have separate instances on a Box or have separate database on a single
instance.
any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a Enterprise edition Server 2003 running the Enterprise Edition of SQL
2005.
I recently upgraded the MS Server 2003 to SP2, we also have the SQL Express
edition loaded on the server to support a Tape Backup Program.

The problem we are having is on one of our test systems. When our
software installs in uses the MSBuild bootstrapper to install Sql
Server Express. After it has installed, when we request an enumeration
of Sql Servers on the network it returns "elbert" (the name of the

wI have a new download of the above installation package. Previously I
installed VS express edition 2008 for web, during which sql 2008 was
installed including configuration and installation tools. I also downloaded
