When setting up different environments (DEV, UAT, DEMO, etc) is it better to have separate instances on a Box or have separate database on a single instance. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a Enterprise edition Server 2003 running the Enterprise Edition of SQL 2005. I recently upgraded the MS Server 2003 to SP2, we also have the SQL Express edition loaded on the server to support a Tape Backup Program.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with 4gb of Ram and 200 GB of free space. I have installed Vista Business 64, and added recommended patches. It also has Office 2007. I am trynig to install SQL server 2008 express. A prereq for this is the 4.5 installer.

wI have a new download of the above installation package. Previously I installed VS express edition 2008 for web, during which sql 2008 was installed including configuration and installation tools. I also downloaded and installed Power shell 1.0.

I have installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista Ultimate x86, then followed it wth SP3. I then receved the Vista compatibilty error. I wrongly expected this problem to be addressed in SP3 without having to install SP2. What is the proper path for me to follow to correcct this?
