and downloaded & ran AdventureWorksDB.msi which I assume is the main
DB (some actual comments sure would be useful there).

On XP SP3 computers (32bit CPU arch) with MSXML SP2 installed, sql server
2005 express can't be installed.

My customer wants to use non-default installation directories but when we get

I have gone through the upgrade to standard edition using a new Product Key,
apparrently successfully. Success is reported by the GUI and teh summary.txt
log file.  However SQL Server refuses to start saying trial edition license
has expired.  I cannot remove the installation ...

I am (attempting to use) SMSS, but when I try to look at any table, I get
the error "Cannot create an editor".  I can look at the same tables without
an issue in VS2008.

In INNI-Setup I use some code to detect the presence of SQL-Server. Up to
2005 this worked fine with SQLDMO. I am unsure if this is ok with 2008 too.

I've been trying to repair my SQL 2008 Express installation but I can't fix
it nor remove it for a reinstall.  I'm stuck.
When I try to start the service (SQLEXPRESS), I get a critical error and it
forces my Vista Business x64 SP1 machine to reboot.
